Greetings! I am a theoretical physicist with a keen interest in high energy theory. On occasion, I refer to myself as a historian, as my research delves into the history of the early universe. By studying this period, physicists can extract valuable insights into the fundamental laws that govern the universe. Additionally, a significant part of my research involves investigating black hole perturbations and gravitational waves, utilizing a variety of techniques from high energy physics.

I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at City University of Hong Kong.

Black hole quasinormal modes
Small perturbations of a black hole produce undulations of the surrounding spacetime, which then move outward as gravitational waves. The pattern of these spacetime fluctuations, dictated solely by the mass and spin of the black hole, oscillates in a distinctive manner within the framework of Einstein’s general relativity. Any deviation from this gravitational theory results in detectable signals in the oscillation spectrum.

Theorist’s cartoon of the universe’s history
How did our universe come to existence? Our current best understanding is that our universe was once smaller than the size of an electron in the phase inflation--where the universe was extremely hot such that space was rapidly created due to the enormous amount of energy density. Quantum fluctuations of energy density evolve into all matter contents we observe nowadays. Relics of quantum fluctuations can be found in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and even large scale structure. It is a beautiuful story that we have statistical confidence but never 100% sure. The astonishing theoretical fact is that we can learn a lot about events that took place in less than the first trillionth second of our universe from correlations of hot and cold spots in CMB.

Worlds Innumerable — MankindsIt is better to be destroyed than to triumph in slaying the spirit. Such as it is, the spirit that we have achieved is fair; and it is indestructibly woven into the tissue of the cosmos.

We die praising the universe in which at least such an achievement as ours can be.&#38;nbsp;</description>

	Puzzles

-Alien’s blood: You collected blood samples from 80 aliens. One of them carries a virus which is deadly to earth animals, infected individual would surely die within one day. You can inject these blood samples into rabbits in the lab. Given two days, what is the minimal number of rabbits needed to pin down the sample with the deadly virus. Uninfected alien’s blood sample do nothing to rabbits and you can inject any number of blood samples into a single rabbit each day.
(This is a variant puzzle I created based on a puzzle from a friend. The original puzzle only allows you to perform the experiment in one day.)

Answer: 4

-Prisoner’s hat: The warden designed a game for 50 prisoners. They have to line up back-to-front facing one direction wearing a hat that is one of the 7 colors of the rainbow. Each one can only see the hats of the prisoners in front of him and cannot see his own hat. The game starts with the first prisoner, who can see 49 hats in front of him, guessing the color of his own hat. Then the second prisoner and so on. Prisoners who guess their hat color correctly will be freed, otherwise will be executed. They can hear guesses from all the prisoners behind them but are not allowed to communicate during the game. Before playing the game, they can discuss the strategies. What is the optimal strategy and the maximal number of guaranteed survival?&#38;nbsp;
